Mom gave the Sharing Time lesson in Primary today. Each of the children took an invitation home to their parents to invite them to have daily scripture study. This is a picture of the invitation.

Each of the families in the Primary was given a Gospel Art book.  Susan got this idea from Alyssa and has used it for years to encourage scripture study with children. As you can see the Primary Children loved it.

This is my friend Colin Gqibitole, a senior accountant working in the Area Office. As you all probably know, The Lord only made a few perfect heads.

Last weekend Susan and I drove out to Sediba-Kwele a large camping lodge area in the North West Providence. The Young Single Adults of the Church were holding a weekend convention there. Susan and I were asked to speak at their Friday evening devotional.

That very tall pole you see in the center of the photograph is actually a lightening rod. Those thatch roof huts can burn pretty quickly if struck by lightening.

These three young ladies came all the way from Botswana for the weekend.

Picture of the Friday devotional meeting. Mom and I didn't speak until 10:30 p.m. Speaking that late was a first.  But everyone was very attentive and awake.

There were just over 300 Young Single Adults present.  Mom and I had a great time.

Saturday morning 6 buses were filled with young adults for a service project.

Sadly, you can never be completely at ease in Africa. Mom and I feel very comfortable here but it's always good to be reminded of dangerous places. 

Before I post any more pictures on this blog. Here is a picture of a Meerkat.  My grandson Cannon Shupe asked if I'd seen any Meerkats while in Africa. I assured him I had and here is the picture to prove it.  Meerkat is actually an Afrikaans word meaning Lake Cat. They remind me of Prairie Dogs but are related to the Mongoose. Do you know what a group of Meerkats is called? A Mob!

The Saturday Institute Class is still a lot of fun. Mom loves it. You can sure tell who has been working in an office for the last 10 months.

This picture was taken this week at Harare, Zimbabwe as 5 young men began their missions. They are heading to the Johannesburg MTC for 2 weeks of training before traveling to their assigned mission field. Reeve Neild is 4th on right. Lolly Maritz is extreme right. Between them, 2 sad but happy Zimbabwean mothers saying goodbye to their sons for 2 years.

When Mom returned from her quick trip home, she brought me some See's Candy. Actually she brought 2 pieces for me and 10 for her. I'm sure glad she's back.

Last Sunday evening, August 3, 2014, Mom and I spoke at a youth fireside at the Kempton Park Ward. Here is a picture of the building.  When I served out here in the late 60's I was the District Leader for the East Rand which included Kempton Park. There was no chapel then and members of the Church had to drive all the way to Germiston, about a 20 mile trip. Now between Kempton Park and Germiston there must be over 6 chapels and one Stake Center.

This is picture of Kempton Park Ward youth who attended our fireside.  On the way home we got lost.  Our new Tom-Tom gave us some bad information. A little scary to be lost at night in Africa.

It has been said that without the senior missionaries it would be very difficult to move the work forward. This is a recently taken photograph of the senior couples working in the Africa Southeast Area Office of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. These wonderful people are working in areas of humanitarian, employment, perpetual education, medical, accounting, family history, Church history, public affairs, missionary support, and legal. One thing they all have in common: they're missing their grandchildren.
